THTR 3553 Directing

An introduction to the craft and art of directing scenes for staged performance. This course guides the beginning director through script and scene analysis with practical assignments in composition, picturization, movement, rhythm, and pantomimic dramatization of story. Directing is instructed as an interdisciplinary art form, requiring the student director to use techniques from their study of design, dramaturgy, management, and performance to communicate ideas developed through the study of literature, visual art, music, politics and culture, science, religion, and current/historical events as well as dramatic texts.
