THTR 3123 Advanced Dance

This flexible topic course provides an introduction to the practice and presentation of dance as artistic performance including: instruction in the historical and cultural development of dance styles; introduction of terminology; preparation of dancers for auditions; improvisation; exercises in body awareness and the physical representation of character; practice of techniques to develop timing and rhythm; and the application of skills in the rehearsal of advanced movement steps and styles. Varied areas of emphasis include: Jazz, Tap, Advanced Tap, Musical Theatre, Hip Hope, Contemporary/Modern, and International/Ballroom Styles. Can be used for physical expression credit.
