MUST 2011 Introduction to Collections Management

Museums preserve and share their collections with a wide range of users. To make these collections available to users, proper collections management principles and activities are essential. This course introduces management principles that can be applied generally to any type of collection. We will examine object acquisition, evaluation, care and storage, and the creation and management of records for: acquisitions, cataloging, loans, deaccessions, disposals, inventory, risk management, and legal issues or restrictions for collection objects.
