MUST 2003 Introduction to Museum Studies

This course will identify and define the modern museum and the history of museums and galleries. The topics of this course will cover the basics of museum planning strategies, collections, exhibition, and some curation. Some "behind the scenes" topics will include museum finances, fundraising, marketing, objects research, collection care and jobs within the museum structure. The course will be based in the Indigenous Cultures Museum, located in Nash Library. Students will learn museum/gallery practices through “hands-on” training in all areas of the museum (i.e. Board of Directors, Curators, Docents, and Gallery Technicians,).
