Alternative Paths to Teacher Certification
Although Science & Arts believes that its teacher preparation programs are designed to produce effective, informed and reflective teachers who are capable of independent practice and continued professional growth, alternative pathways to teacher certification are recognized. Current alternative paths to teacher certification include Oklahoma's Alternative Placement Program and the Career Development Program for Paraprofessionals.
Candidates choosing to seek certification through Oklahoma's Alternative Placement Program can complete a degree program of their choice and apply to the Oklahoma State Department of Education for the Alternative Placement Program. Once accepted into the program, they can file with the Director of Teacher Education for permission to take professional education classes as required by the State Department of Education. Candidates holding Emergency Certification or seeking alternative certification through the Career Development Program for Paraprofessionals can also file with the Director of Teacher Education for permission to take professional education classes as required by the State Department of Education.
