HIST 2213 Introduction to the Modern Middle East
This class is designed to give students a basic understanding of the modern Middle East. A great deal of the material will be the history of the region, some as far back as the Prophet Mohammad, but most dealing with the 19th and 20th century. However, to understand the Middle East today we will cover much more than just the history, lectures will deal with topics such as politics and geography, but also important issues like religion, society, and culture. By the end of the semester students should understand there is much more to the Middle East besides wars and terrorism.
