English with Interdisciplinary Writing Emphasis (BA)

Overview

The English program at Science & Arts is designed to offer students a broad base of knowledge in literature, composition, creative writing, and foreign languages. Emphasis is upon the power of words and their best use. English majors may choose from several concentrations, and their experience is further augmented by the opportunity to learn special tutorial skills in the Academic Writing Center and participate in individually designed practicums.

Available concentrations include Literature, emphasizing American, British, and global literary traditions; Creative Writing, emphasizing the composition of poetry, prose fiction, and other creative genres; Interdisciplinary Writing, emphasizing professional and cross-disciplinary writing skills; and Teacher Certification, preparing students to teach language arts in grades 6-12.

Graduates are well prepared for immediate careers in a variety of areas such as public-school teaching, publishing and editing, and business writing. Those who elect to continue their studies in graduate school are especially well prepared to do so.
